The Nintendo 3DS handheld has managed to again top the video game hardware chart for the Japanese market, as compiled by tracking firm Media Create, while the video game top ten has been dominated by Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary for the Wii home console.

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell 58,837 devices during the week which ended on September 18, which is a small but encouraging increase over the 49,076 that it delivered to players during the previous week.

Most analysts believe that the jump in sales is linked to the announcement that Capcom was bringing Monster Hunter 4 to the platform.

Second place in the hardware chart was again occupied by the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony, which has managed to sell 36,601 units during seven days, a very good number given its history, while the last place on the podium has gone to another Sony device, the classic PlayStation Portable, a platform that has posted sales of 25,129.

PSP sales will probably continue to drop as the launch date for the new Vita, December 17, is coming closer.

Nintendo took fourth and fifth place in Japan with the Wii and the DS, standing on 15,406 and 5,181 units, while the Xbox 360 was again beaten by the PlayStation 2.

When it comes to video games Dragon Quest 25th Anniversary has managed to occupy the top spot with sales of 263,398 copies during its first week on sale, allowing long term fans to play the first three titles in the long running series.

Tales of Xillia, from Namco Bandai for the PS3, has taken second place with 47,297 units sold, while third place went to Resident Evil: Revival Selection, from Capcom, with sales of 17,614.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Wii Sports Resort, Rhythm Heaven, Monster Hunter Freedom 3 HD, Kirby Mass Attack, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Grand Knights History and Monster Hunter Diary: Pokapoka Felyne G.
