The launch of Monster Hunter 4 on the Japanese market has led to 1.7 million copies for publisher Capcom and has also significantly increased sales of the 3DS handheld.

The Nintendo device has managed to sell 276,792 units for the week that ended on September 15, which is more than three times the figure posted in the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation 3 is in second place in the Japanese hardware chart, with 12,146 devices sold, according to NeoGAF.   This represents a slight decrease, while the PlayStation Vita is perilously close to going under the 6,000 weekly mark.

The Wii U is just three units over the 5,000 unit sold threshold.

The software chart includes: AKB1/149: Love Election, Brothers Conflict: Brilliant Blue, Friend Collection: New Life, Uta no Prince-Sama: Music 2, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle, Disney Magic Castle: My Happy Life, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Youkai Watch.
