The Japanese video game market seems to be in a holding pattern this week as the Nintendo 3DS handheld continues to be the best selling piece of hardware while the already old Pokemon Black & White 2 is the leader of the software chart.

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell 47,063 units during the week that ended on July 15, which is lower than the total for the previous week by about 5,000 piece of hardware, while second place in the chart has been again occupied by the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony, with sales of 14,813, essentially flat week over week.

The PlayStation Vita handheld from Sony also failed to increase its overall weekly sales, but managed to move 13,427 units to players, narrowly beating the older PSP, which during the same period has sold a little over 11,000 mobile game consoles.

The Nintendo Wii continues to decline, moving 6,747 devices to players during the week, more than the PlayStation 2, the Xbox 360 and the older versions of the DS.

Pokemon Black & White 2 managed to sell 122,242 copies for the DS during the week that ended on July 15 in order to lead the software chart, showing that the older devices can still generate big hits.

Second place has gone to Taiko Drum Master: Chibi Dragon and the Mysterious Orb from Namco Bandai for the 3DS, a new entry that has managed to move 65,642 devices in one week.

The last place on the podium goes to Pocket Soccer League: Calciobit, another 3DS game, with sales of 26,449, completing a solid software win for Nintendo.

The rest of the top ten includes: Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry’s Wonderland 3D, Little Battler eXperience: Baku Boost, Toriko Gourmet Survival 2, Etrian Odyssey IV, Time Travelers, Mario Party 9 and Time Travelers.
