The Media Create sales numbers for Japan show that the launch of Gran Turismo 5, the racing simulation title created by Polyphony Digital and published by Sony, has sold well on its first week on the market while also boosting sales of the PlayStation 3, the console on which it is exclusively delivered.

The PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony is the best seller of the week, although it has seen an overall drop in its numbers from 96,601 units during the previous week to just 75,689.

The PlayStation 3 has more than doubled its own sales, reaching 68,840 coming from just 29,058 during the previous seven-day period.

The Nintendo Wii has also seen a boost, although a smaller one, going from 27,851 to 41,267, while the best of the DS family of Nintendo handhelds is fourth in the hardware chart, going from 21,836 to 28,370.

The DSi is one place lower and has also seen an increase of more than 5,000 units while the Xbox 360 from Microsoft has registered a drop from 7,083 units to 4,329.

The PlayStation Portable Go has managed to sell better than the DS Lite and the PlayStation 2.

Gran Turismo 5 has finally launched and has managed to take the first spot in the video game sales chart, with no less than 430,707 copies moved to racing fans in less than one week.

Second spot in the chart has also been taken up by a new release, Super Robot Taisen L from Namco Bandai for the Nintendo DS, which managed first week sales of 129,054 while third place has gone to yet another new launch, Mario Sports Mix from Nintendo for the Wii home console, which managed to move 84,983 units to gamers.

Fourth spot went to Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, which managed to hang on to its position as other games have fallen by, while Pokemon Black and White is at number five.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Call of Dut Black Ops, Super Kaseki Horider, Dangan-Ronpa, Power Pro Kun Pocket 13 and Wii Party.
