The PlayStation 3 home console from Sony managed to become the best sold piece of video game related hardware on the Japanese market for the week that ended on August 22, with Another Century's Episode R being the best sold title in the country.

The PS3 platform managed to sell 29,443 units in seven days, which is below the 33,057 that it managed during the previous week and Sony must be happy to see the PlayStation Portable handheld taking second place with sales of 27,554 devices, which is also lower than the 35,734 that it posted for the previous period.

The DSi LL, the Nintendo made portable gaming device that offers the most screen space and two cameras, took third spot with sales of 21,179, down from 27,923.

Meanwhile the DSi managed to move 20,030 devices to gamers while the Nintendo Wii saw one of the sharpest drops in sales, going from 25,072 to 18,145.

The DS Lite managed to sell more units than the Xbox 360 home console, which went down from 5,065 to 4,012, with the PlayStation 2 and the PSP Go bringing up the rear of the hardware market.

The entire hardware market has seen a significant slowdown and it might continue until the market sees some big game launches that can also drive up hardware sales.

On the video game front Another Century's Episode R fron Namco Bandai managed to debut at the top of the chart with 219,849 copies sold during its first week, all for the PlayStation 3.

Wii Party from Nintendo managed to take second place, with sales of 68,852 units, while Super Dimensional Game Neptune from Compile Heart managed to take the third position on the podium with sales of just 22,574, showing off the weakness of the market.

Inazuma Eleven 3: Sekai e no Chousen!! Spark and Bomber from Level Five managed to take fourth spot while Sengoku Basara 3 from Capcom is in fifth place.
