The Japanese firm Media Create, which tracks sales on the country's hardware and software video game markets, has posted information about the sales for the week that ended on May 22, showing the PlayStation Portable handheld from Sony is increasing its domination over the newer Nintendo 3DS device.

The PSP has seen a decrease in sales from 34,655 units during the previous week to 30,463 for this week and despite the slow down the device has managed to sell close to double what the Nintendo 3DS managed at 17,240 consoles, also coming from 18,324.

Nintendo has suggested that it will be talking about a number of new 3DS powered titles at the upcoming E3 event, aiming to boost sales of the device, which have also been slowing down in North America and in Europe.

When it comes to home consoles, the best performer is the PlayStation 3 from Sony, which posted sales of 12,935 units for the week, coming from 13,789.

The Nintendo Wii is again under the 10,000 units barrier, at 6,269.

The rest of the hardware chart is made up of the LL version of the DSi, the normal DSi, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PS2, the DS Lite and the PSP Go, which has gone as low as selling just 171 units during seven days.

When it comes to video games, the best-selling one is Akiba's Trip, which was developed by Acquire for the PSP, and managed to sell 58,150 units during its first week on shelves.

Second spot went to the 3DS-powered Dead or Alive: Dimensions, created by Koei Tecmo, with sales of just 23,078.

Last week’s number one, Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 – Professional, from Square Enix, has managed to slid to third position with sales of 19,290.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Gungnir: Mayari no Gunshin to Eiyuu Sensou, Patapon 3, Portal 2, Pro Baseball Spirits 2011, Wii Party, Pokemon Black / White, Steel Diver, Pro Baseball Spirits 2011 and Dai-2-Ji Super Robot Wars Z: Hakai-hen.
