After a growth of 45% on-year, it's not really such a surprise

Public IT cloud services are much more important than some people think. Despite appearing as a recent fixture, cloud computing has been in use for a long time, which makes Japan's increased spending on them completely logical.

Public IT clouds are the sort of servers and server conglomerates used for social networking, automated backup and log management, support for mobile devices, etc.

Japan, being a sort of forerunner in terms of technology, has been investing quite a bit in public clouds like this.

In fact, the expenditures increased in 2012, year-over-year, by 45%, to JPY90 billion ($919.16 / €681.82 million).

IDC now expects expenditures in this area to grow a further 28% every year (on average), from 2012 to 2017, to JPY300 billion ($3.06 / €2.27 billion).

Maybe this means that online-supported 3D printing services, new phones/tablets and maybe cloud-based gaming will take off.
