This week, the most important current gaming hardware has seen a solid boost on the Japanese market and the handhelds from both Sony and Nintendo have managed to stay ahead of the PlayStation 4 home console in terms of sales.

The 3DS is the best-selling device for the period that ended on March 23, with 40,276 units delivered to players, which is a solid increase over the previous tracked period.

At the same time, the PlayStation Vita continues to perform well and has seen its own numbers increase to 37,128, according to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF, while the next-gen PlayStation 4 has managed to sell 30,201, which is an increase over the 29,677 of the previous week.

The PS3 is also still selling well and even the much-maligned Wii U from Nintendo has posted an increase.

In Japan, the leader of the video game chart is Mario Party: Island Tour for the Nintendo 3DS, which managed to move 120,452 copies to players during its first week on the market.

A number of other new entries dominate the rest of the top ten: Samurai Warriors 4, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, J-Stars Victory Vs for PS3, J-Stars Victory Vs for Vita, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes for PS4, Pro Baseball Spirits 2014, Yo-kai Watch, Samurai Warriors 4 and Dark Souls II.
