The Japanese market has seen a slow down in overall sales for the week that ended on August 21, both when it comes to hardware and to software sales, according to the figures offered by the tracking firm Media Create.

The Nintendo 3DS handheld has managed to sell 105,639 units during the seven-days period, which is still quite an impressive number despite being down significantly when compared to the more than 140,000 units sold during the previous week.

The problem for Nintendo is that the pace of sales is dropping precipitously just two weeks after the 40 percent price cut, which might mean that the 3DS might be down to normal levels before the end of the year.

The PlayStation Portable from Sony has managed to keep its second place in Japan with sales of 40,901 units while the PlayStation 3 home gaming console has seen an increase in units sold, which reached close to 30,000 after Sony cut its price to the equivalent of 249 dollars.

The Nintendo Wii is in fourth place overall, with sales of 18,256 units while the normal DS line has managed to move a little over 8,000 units to customers.

The PlayStation 2 has managed to outsell the Xbox 360.

When it comes to video games, the best seller has been Rhythm Heaven, a game for the Wii which has been on sale for some weeks, with 48,190 units moved to players.

Second place went to Monster Hunter Diary: Pokapoka Felyne G for the PSP, with 40,997, while Kirby Mass Attack for the DS took third place, standing on 32,235 copies sold.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Growlanser IV: Over Reloaded, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, Wii Sports Resort with Remote Plus, J-League Pro Soccer Club! 7: Euro+, Toriko: Gourmet Survival and Uta no Prince-Sama: Repeat.
