The Nintendo 3DS has posted sales of 96,463 units for the week that ended on March 13, the first time it has gone under the 100,000 barrier since the device was launched, as most other hardware has also seen a decrease over the previous week.

The Nintendo handheld is still the leader of the hardware space, but in the coming weeks its position might be threatened by the PlayStation Portable from Sony.

The PSP has sold 44,646 units to gamers, which is down from more than 75,000 during the previous week, a slide in numbers coupled to that of the latest Final Fantasy video game from Square Enix.

Third place in the hardware chart went to the PlayStation 3 home console, the only one that has seen an increase in sales, going to 32,406 units coming from 25,918.

The Nintendo Wii has taken fourth place, with sales that have gone below 10,000 units, followed by the DSi LL version of the older Nintendo handheld and by the normal DSi.

The Xbox 360 from Microsoft, which has traditionally seen very small sales in Japan has managed to sell better than the PlayStation 2, the PSP Go and the DS Lite.

Dynasty Warriors 7, the Tecmo Koei-published hack-and-slash game that builds upon a historical theme and allows the player to slice his way through fields full of enemies, has managed to be the best-selling video game of the week, managing to sell 253,900 units in its first week on sale.

Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy from Square Enix has gone down one place and managed to sell another 64,996 units as Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is the first 3DS game in the top ten, with 29,157 units sold.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan Saisen, Nintendogs + Cats, Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity, SD Gundam G Generation World, Monster Hunter Freedom 3, Fairy Tail Portable Guild 2 and Way of the Samurai 4.
