The PlayStation 4 performs better than other home consoles

The Japanese market is an important one for the video game industry and the 3DS continues to be the best-selling piece of hardware in the region, while Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is the title that continues to lead the software chart.

The Nintendo-made handheld has managed to generate sales of 79,217 units for the week that ended on November 9, which is about 10,000 units more than during the previous seven-day period, but is lower than the number posted during the same period in 2013.

The PlayStation Vita is again in second place, but its own sales have dropped and are just a little over the 10,000 mark, according to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF, which might be a sign that Sony needs to launch more titles for the platform or create a strong link between it and the home consoles it produces.

The PlayStation 4 is the best-selling home console and has delivered 10,078 units to its fans during the week, which is an improvement when compared to the previous tracked period.

The Wii U from Nintendo continues to underperform and is unable to reach 5,000 units sold, but the launch of Super Smash Bros. might change the situation before the end of the month.

The PS3 might be old but it has still managed to sell 4,666 devices, while the Xbox One is a big disappointment and has only moved 513 units to gamers.

Japan is an anomaly because Microsoft devices tend not to perform too well on the market, but the relative lack of success of the PS4 is also a concern for Sony.

Hardware sales are linked to software success

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, which Capcom has launched for the 3DS, continues to rule the Japanese software chart, with 57,645 copies delivered to players, while second place is occupied by Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke from Level 5.

The last place on the podium is occupied by the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros., which has managed to sell 24,509 units.

The rest of the top ten includes: the PS3 version of Jikkyou Powerful Pro Baseball 2014, the PS Vita version of the same title, The Evil Within, Tales of the World: Reve Unitia, The LEGO Movie Videogame on the 3DS, The LEGO Movie Videogame for the Wii U, and Mario Kart 8.

Super Smash Bros. will be the game which will significantly change the nature of the Japanese software market in the near future.
