The winter holidays can be very trying for marriages that are already experiencing serious problems, reports say. As a matter of fact, the festivities can be so trying that, the first thing spouses do on the morning of January 4, when the holidays officially come to an end, is to see divorce attorneys to end the marriage. Today is D-Day for many, the
Daily Mail says in a recent piece.
January 4 has come to be known as Divorce Day for very practical reasons, namely that it’s the day when everybody returns to work, including divorce attorneys. Because of this and presumably because of the tension that marks the winter holidays for many a couple, today, a peak in divorce rates is noticeable – and 2010 will be marked throughout by an increased number of divorces, specialists say for the same publication.
“The number of couples seeking a divorce is set to peak today – the first working day after the Christmas and New Year break – according to research. Relationship experts say that spending a long holiday break together is often the final straw for couples whose marriage is heading for the rocks. Many warring couples do not tell their children the bad news over the festive occasion but make appointments with divorce lawyers as soon as they are back at work,” the Mail writes.
“The general divorce rate will also rise by 2 per cent in 2010 with the recession taking most of the blame, the report by website divorce-online.co.uk says. Business is booming for the firm, with sales of its low-cost divorce products up 30 per cent year-on-year, having seen a record number of new clients in December. The report also says that the UK’s divorce rate has fallen in recent years, but is still among the world’s highest,” the same report goes on to say.
As per a spokesperson for the aforementioned divorce website, at the time of writing, over 100 couples had already phoned in for some sort of counseling as regards separation procedures. Divorce Day is a bleak day, coming to mark the end of the festive season – officially.
