The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced that the week between January 13 and January 17, 2014 will be the national Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week. The aim is to raise awareness of tax identity theft through regional and national events.

The activities held as part of the Tax Identity Theft Awareness Week include webinars and Twitter chats (in both English and Spanish), and regional events that take place across the US.

The FTC also provides materials that can be used by consumer advocates, law enforcement agencies and other organizations. They’re designed to inform consumers on how to identify, prevent and respond to tax identity theft.
