Since the public memorial service for Michael Jackson, held in Los Angeles at the Staples Center, sister Janet has been keeping a very low profile. There have been a few public appearances and a couple of interviews (and, of course, plenty of rumors), but this is small pickings compared with the kind of exposure she used to get. Janet resurfaced at the amFAR Milano 2009, looking as
fabulous as ever.
The event precedes the kickoff of the Milan Fashion Week, and Janet was one of the special guests there with longtime beau Jermaine Dupri, thus coming to rubbish earlier reports that they had moved in separate directions. For the red carpet, the singer opted for a Versace navy blue, floor-long gown that wrapped around her waist and made her look as spectacular as ever.
Janet Jackson has waged a very long battle with the extra pounds, as she’s the first to admit. Currently, the singer is more on the fuller side, but that certainly did not stop her from looking absolutely stunning on the red carpet for the official shots. With her choice for a gown – that came with a very generous décolletage and made the best of every woman’s strongest suits, like the waist and the hips –, Janet has proven once again that curves and not stick-thin will always be in.
Speaking of her weight, the singer recently opened up about her struggle to maintain her figure in check, saying that she often piled on the pounds because she was what they called a comfort eater. Feelings of isolation and abandonment made her insecure, which, in turn, pushed her to eat to feel better, Janet revealed in a recent magazine interview, as we also
informed you. To help other women who may find themselves in such a situation, Janet is currently working on the release of a diet and self-esteem book.
“It was originally about weight loss. But I wanted it to be more about my triggers. I can be an emotional eater. Of late, I have been doing that, yes. It started when I was very little. My brothers were gone on tour a lot, and I would miss them so much. Certain things in my life would become triggers. I wish I’d had a book like this when I was that young. People forget that everyone has things going on. It’s still important to face reality, and not that I’m running, but sometimes you just need to get away for a second.” the singer recently said of the upcoming book.
