Janet Jackson will no longer be releasing full LPs, choosing instead to focus on her acting, says her ex, Jermaine Dupri

Earlier this year, when speaking to Gotham magazine about her plans for the future, Janet Jackson was also generous enough as to offer some details on the direction she’d like her upcoming album to take. She did not go into specifics, though, such as an estimated release date, or anything, but the interview did offer fans some insurance that she was coming back as a recording artist. Not quite so, Jermaine Durpri says in an interview cited by Contact Music.

Janet is done with putting out albums, the singer’s ex says with conviction. Too many things have changed with the music industry to make the recording, promotion and launch of a music album almost a futile attempt at earning one’s living. However, because music remains Janet’s love and first calling, she will not cease recording altogether, for she will continue to put out singles every once in a while – but that’s that.

“Janet Jackson doesn’t want to make any more albums. The ‘All For You’ singer is no longer interested in recording LPs as they no longer have the impact they once did and would rather make singles. Her ex-boyfriend, producer Jermaine Dupri, said: ‘I can tell you that she’s not working on an album. We just did the one song “Nothing” for the “Why Did I Get Married Too?” soundtrack’,” Contact Music writes. As Dupri sees it, the decision has been made and Janet will focus mostly on her acting from now on, no buts or maybes about it.

“Last time I heard she really didn’t want to do an album. She wanted to just do singles every once in a while. She’s looked at the marketplace – albums are not really doing what they usually do when you put all this budget out there. Janet is just trying to figure out her landscape. Janet’s cool. She has a lot of work going on that’s keeping her in the right direction. The movie came out, which is the biggest Tyler Perry movie he has had thus far. It looks like her star power as an actress is still there. And she’s about to do the other movie, ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf’ with Mariah Carey, Kerry Washington and Whoopi Goldberg,” the music producer says.

So far, Janet herself has said nothing about her plans of never releasing another music album but, should she actually come to the conclusion that releasing only singles is the way to go, chances are she’ll say so soon. Keep an eye on this space for when – and if – she does.
