Jan Ullrich is set to continue his "training" for the Tour de France by participating in next week's Tour of Switzerland.
Although he is still in a great deal of pain - due to his back injury - the German cyclist seems determined to fight for a great comeback. After managing his first ever Il Giro stage win a couple of weeks ago, Ulrich had to abandon the race due to severe pain.
But his hopes remain pretty high, as the future French competition is concerned. "The fact that I have enjoyed success in this race in the past and that I feel at ease there also influenced my decision", said the determined Ullrich.
Considered as one of the decisive last trainings before the Tour de France, the Swiss competition is taken very seriously by the T-Mobile team - which Ullrich competes for.
"It will be four more race days for Jan and he will benefit from the tough Tour de Suisse parcours to sharpen his form", said Olaf Ludwig, the team boss. Ullrich will seek to regain the title won here 2 years ago too. He is very used to finishing on the podium in Switzerland, managing a third place here last year too.
A new member of the T-Mobile that will join the team in the race will be Andreas Kloden. The cyclist will make his return after missing almost 8 months due to a pretty harsh crash late last year. His comeback is certainly going to be great news for the team's officials, since he will be one of their main weapons for the Tour de France that gets under way in July.
