ABC renews “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” for another season, ordering 6 new episodes

With a little help from Oprah and a little more from the Emmys, but, most importantly, thanks to Jamie Oliver’s charisma and determination to make a difference, the chef’s new reality show has been picked up for the second season.

As we also noted on previous occasions, British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is out to win over US audiences with his “Food Revolution” reality series, which aims to change the way Americans eat and think of food.

Shooting for the first season got off to a rocky start, with people of Huntington, West Virginia, back then named “America’s fattest city” resisting whatever change he wanted to make.

However, audiences loved it – so much so that ABC has just picked up the show for a second season, The Hollywood Reporter informs.

“ABC has picked up six new episodes of the show from Ryan Seacrest Productions and Fresh One, which will begin production this winter for a midseason or summer run,” THR writes.

Perhaps anticipating resistance (and even animosity) from audiences, Oliver got massive support in the US from established stars for his endeavor (which doesn’t necessarily mean his show, but also the initiative in itself), including Ryan Seacrest, Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman.

At this year’s Emmy Awards, the British chef picked up an award for Outstanding Reality Series, which undoubtedly made ABC see it had a gold mine on its hands – assuming it hadn’t realized that until then.

“For the second season, the show will move to Los Angeles and broaden out, helping people of all ages improve their eating habits in schools, homes, workplaces and even restaurants,” THR says of what fans are to expect from the upcoming season.

“The informative and altruistic series drew critical raves during its midseason run, and averaged 5.5 million viewers and a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating in a tough Friday night time period. Seacrest and Oliver serve as executive producers,” THR further informs.

As also noted above, season 2 of “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” goes into production later this year, and will premiere in spring or summer of the next year.
