Holmes' insanity defense did not go too well with prosecutors either

Prosecutors in the case of Aurora shooter James Holmes have turned down a deal by the defense which would have secured him a life sentence in exchange for a guilty plea.

State attorneys have considered Holmes' timing for the plea, which comes after his attorneys have suggested criminal insanity as motivation for the killings and have refused to release information in the case.

Global Post reports that the prosecution dubs accepting the plea "extremely unlikely based on the present information available to the prosecution."

They suggest that Holmes's offer is simply a ruse and it is designed to draw sympathy and publicity.

As I also noted, without striking a deal with the state, Holmes may be facing the death penalty on several counts of murder and attempted murder for his July killing spree.
