James Franco has never been afraid to get people talking so there’s no need for him to stop that now. The actor is featured in full drag on the cover of fashion magazine Candy.

The magazine, which boasts of celebrating transvestism, cross dressing and androgyny, in all forms, is at its second edition – and, with a “cover girl” like that, it’s bound to sell out.

As the Huffington Post notes, the cover features the Hollywood actor in an ‘80s-style black jacket, leather gloves, oversized jewelry and plenty of makeup.

With blue eyeshadow, false eyelashes, lots of foundation and his hair slicked-back, James Franco is barely recognizable, which was perhaps the intention behind the shoot as well.

Speaking of which, the spread was shot by famed (and infamous) photographer Terry Richardson, who presumably also appears in a few photos himself, as he does most of the time.

However, Franco will not be the only one in drag in the 300+-page issue of the magazine because, as the video on the Post can also confirm, many other men will be paying tribute to showbiz icons.

Among those more easily recognizable are Barbra Streisand, Lady Gaga, Twiggy, Amy Winehouse, Grace Jones and even Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour.

As of now, further details of the issue with Franco on the cover have not been made public, but what is certain is that many voices in the blogosphere are pointing out the irony in his choice for his most recent interviews.

In September this year, James Franco was on the cover of The Advocate, a publication destined for the LGBT community, saying he would not out himself regardless of how much mainstream media speculated on his orientation.

“I guess the reason I wouldn’t [come out] is because I’d be worried that it would hurt my career,” Franco said at the time, speaking hypothetically.

“I suppose that’s the reason one wouldn’t do that, right? But no, that wouldn’t be something that would deter me,” the actor added, as if changing his mind.

As for showing a predilection for gay roles or an out of the ordinary ability to play them in a convincing manner, well, that’s just the way it is, he said: it doesn’t really mean anything.

“I’m going to do projects that I want to do. Everyone thinks I’m a stoner, and some people think I’m gay because I’ve played these gay roles. That’s what people think, but it’s not true. I don’t smoke pot,” he said.
