Towards the end of March, James Cameron announced that he was to donate his Deepsea Challenger to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI, for short) in Massachusetts.

The sub set out on its journey to WHOI this past June 1, recent news on the topic says.

Before being sent on this cross-country expedition, the Deepsea Challenger was put on display at the California Science Center, where people got the chance to see it and ask questions about the technologies it encompasses. Look to the Stars says that the sub will make several stops along the way. It will reportedly be displayed in Dallas on June 4, in New Orleans on June 5 and in Washington D.C. on June 11.

WHOI are to get their hands on James Cameron's Deepsea Challenger by June 15 at the latest.

“Moving the DEEPSEA CHALLENGER cross-country to its new home at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution provides an opportunity to make the sub available to students and the general public, so they can see it, touch it, and ask questions.”

“This will create a major inspirational dividend of the DEEPSEA CHALLENGE project,” James Cameron offered as an explanation for his decision to allow people to have a close look at the sub.
