Has a lot of stories to tell

Avatar, the movie directed by James Cameron, has become one of the biggest releases in the history of cinematography and is set to change the way we look at films in the years to come thanks to the way it used 3D technology.

Avatar: The Game, which got the James Cameron name but had little direct input from the director, has done far less better, getting mixed reviews and not managing to make an impact in terms of sales. But this is not a concern for the film creator, who has expressed a desire to actually contribute his ideas to more videogames in the coming years.

James Cameron told X-Play that “I've got a lot of stories, and I don't have enough time to make them all as movies” and added that he might continue his relationship with French publisher Ubisoft saying, “That's something I'm exploring with Ubisoft to see if maybe there's a relationship around just getting these stories and world ideas into games - just completely independent of movies. You know, good ideas and visuals are exactly that.”

It's not clear how much recognition the James Cameron name has among gamers and if a title endorsed by the film maker might experience an increase in sales that would otherwise be unattainable.

Ubisoft already has a symbiotic relationship with author Tom Clancy. The company bought the rights to use his name together with its products and has created a variety of videogames based on a shared Tom Clancy universe, from the recent arcade flight simulator H.A.W.X. to the long running tactical shooter Rainbow Six.

In the near future, we might get a similar line of products stamped with the James Cameron brand. Let's just hope that the people at Ubisoft are as interested in quality as in name recognition.
