Seeing how James Cameron took over a decade to come out with “Avatar,” it came quite as a surprise to hear he would be putting out 2 sequels in less than 5 years. As it turns out, development on the sequels will take longer – but at least we'll be getting 3 films instead of 2.

For those who haven't been keeping up to speed with all this “Avatar” talk, a bit of context: after the release of the blockbuster 3D blue alien film, rumors started making the rounds about a possible sequel.

They were confirmed in October 2010: two films would come out, in December 2014 and December 2015, respectively.

In January 2012, word got out that “Avatar 2” would not come out earlier than 2016, which pushed the release date back by at least 2 years.

Now, Sigourney Weaver is saying Cameron is working on 3, not 2 sequels.

“Sigourney Weaver confirmed tonight that James Cameron is shooting 'Avatar' 2, 3, and 4 all at the same time, all with her, and starting this fall,” Showbiz411 writes after speaking to the actress.

The piece doesn't offer any details about how Weaver's role involvement in the projects will play out, considering that her character dies at the end of the original film.

What it does make clear though is that she will be in the sequels – all three of them.

“When 'Political Animals' finishes shooting, see if you can follow Weaver’s schedule: she goes right into a new Christopher Durang play for a short run at Lincoln Center. Then she films 'Avatar' 2, 3, and 4 with James Cameron,” the same media outlet writes.

“That’s right: they’re making three sequels to the blue 3D phenom all at the same time. Weaver says she has no idea how long it will take, or how it’s going to work. 'I just show up,' she said,” Showbiz411 notes.

There is also a chance that she will have to push back her start-date on “Avatar,” assuming “Political Animals” is renewed.
