James Bond (Craig) and Silva (Bardem) share a moment – does flirting make Bond gay?

The reasons men would love to be James Bond, if even for a day, are: the guns, the cars, the women (not particularly in that order). Bond has always had his way with the ladies but, with “Skyfall,” he might be switching lanes, albeit for a very short period of time.

MovieLine notes that, in one particular scene in the film, Daniel Craig’s Bond and Javier Bardem’s Silva (i.e. the movie’s villain) share a moment that is anything but what one would expect from a James Bond film.

“[Silva] caresses the bound MI6 agent's chest. In response to Silva's attentions, 007 replies, ‘What makes you think this is my first time?’” the e-zine writes of the scene.

Speaking with the press about it, Bardem dropped major hints that, indeed, his character is gay and he’s making an obvious pass at Bond.

Craig too is fueling the fire by saying basically the same, but he stops short of confirming whether Bond too is flirting back. Sort of.

“Someone suggested that Silva may be gay. And I'm like, I think he'll [expletive] anything,” Craig says laughing. He also describes the scene as “a great flirt. It's a game of cards. It’s the right thing to say.”

In the end, it’s probably up to the viewer to determine whether that scene paints Bond as bi, gay, curious or simply witty enough to play Silva’s game.

Whether having a gay 007 would be such a bad thing is an entirely different discussion, one that I’d like you to start in the comments section below.
