He sang his way into the hearts of millions of (mostly female) fans, but James Blunt has decided the time has come to call it a day. He’s quitting music, he says in a new interview cited by The Huffington Post.

Blunt, whose ascension to fame was as surprising as it was impressive, spoke to reporters from a British tab, and revealed his intention of stepping down from making music.

“I just want to take some time out for myself,” he is cited by the Post as saying.

“I haven't got any plans to do more songwriting. I have been chilling out since I finished my world tour and I've spent a lot of time in Ibiza,” the singer added.

He did not say what he planned to do with all the spare time instead but, considering that he owns a house in Ibiza where he’s been chilling, one might imagine he’s not lacking things to do when he’s not recording.

Neither did he say whether he planned to make his retirement temporary or for good. After all, cases of artists who “retired” from music only for a few years as they found convenient, have been known to happen.

Should Blunt be thinking of leaving the music industry for good, this will certainly cause heartbreak in many a fan: it’s not for nothing that he’s considered one of the most romantic and talented singers of our time.

Proof of how much he’s esteemed in the industry as well is to be found in his 5 Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Album, which he landed for “Back to Bedlam,” as the Post notes.

Below is “You’re Beautiful,” perhaps Blunt’s most famous and, at the same time, widely parodied, tracks in his entire career.
