Epic action-adventure is getting mixed reactions

For some reason or another, Jake Gyllenhaal, although a very accomplished actor, is far from the image the general public has of an action hero. With this in mind, it’s no wonder many were skeptic when they heard he would be starring in “Prince of Persia,” a film based on the popular video game. However, the reaction the actor got at the Spike TV 2009 Video Game Awards, where he presented a full minute of the film, was overall a positive one.

Jake was at the awards ceremony precisely with the purpose of presenting additional footage from the film, which is still in post-production. As he also says right before allowing fans a glimpse of the story that is to come their way next year, the film is far from completed, but from the footage already done, the movie studio has comprised this 1-minute trailer that promises one heck of a ride when the film comes out.

“From the team that brought the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ trilogy to the big screen, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films present ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time,’ an epic action-adventure set in the mystical lands of Persia. A rogue prince (Jake Gyllenhaal) reluctantly joins forces with a mysterious princess (Gemma Arterton) and together, they race against dark forces to safeguard an ancient dagger capable of releasing the Sands of Time – a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world,” the synopsis of the film says, as posted on SlashFilm.

“Directed by Mike Newell (‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’) with a cast that includes Sir Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina, and a screenplay by Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard from a screen story by Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin, ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ hits theaters Memorial Day Weekend, 2010,” the same movie-oriented publication says.

The new footage from the film, which hadn’t been seen until the night of the Spike TV Awards, comes on the heels of the release of the trailer a couple of weeks ago. Like the trailer too, this 1 minute of complete footage has gotten mixed reactions from fans, with those not familiar with the video games saying it looked too complicated and, therefore, uninviting, while fans immediately took to the Internet to express their hope that they would not be disappointed by the film.
