Iliad, a French Internet provider, has just announced that users of jailbroken iPhones that are subscribers to its Free brand will be able to make unlimited calls to French land-line numbers. Those who wish to benefit from the offer will need to install a SIP-VoIP application developed by Touchmods, called Siphon, on their jailbroken Apple phones.

An iPod touch version is also made available. Apple players, however, will require a VoIP microphone attached, while users, independently of their operator, are subject to availability of the SIP service.

"Dear iPhone owners," touchmods.net greets readers. "Finally we can provide you with iPhone support in our SIP-VoIP Application! The new application is released under the name 'Siphon' (no 'e' at end!) and is already available. However, since our first iPhone came as a donation from the French ADSL Provider Free (www.free.fr), the recent version of Siphon with iPhone support is temporarily locked to their service."

According to the touchmods.net weblog, new subscribers in unbundled area also benefit from the Freebox services, for a charge of ?29.99 per month. The services include very high speed broadband Internet access over ADSL 2+ (up to 28Mbit/s download and up to 1 Mbit/s upload), a telephony service which includes unlimited calls to 70 destinations, http://adsl.free.fr/tel/tarifs/, a whole range of telephone services provided free of charge, including a telephone answering service, a fax service, customizable ring-back tones and the barring of calls without CLI, etc.

Also, newcomers have the opportunity to choose the full unbundling option (Total Freebox), which means that they will no longer have to pay separate rental charges for their telephone line, while a television service, offering access to 200 digital audiovisual channels (100 of which are included in the package), is also being bundled, containing a wide range of innovative audiovisual services.

Audiovisual services include HDTV, Mediacenter, Multidevice, Video on Demand (VoD) and Subscription VOD services, PVR and TV Perso Freebox ? a world premiere: the 1st service of self-produced videos broadcast on TV, according to touchmods.

The new HD Freebox, which includes router, Wif-Fi and Power Line Communication (PLC) with Freeplugs, is provided free of charge throughout the duration of the subscription.
