An iPad 2-compatible JailbreakMe 3.0 is going online as soon as today, according to ‘a little magic midget’ quoted by the iPhone Download Blog.

A source responsible for accurately leaking jailbreak details in the past, the blog claims to have received a tip that Comex’s JailbreakMe 3.0 is going live July 5th (today):

“…a little magic midget tells us JailbreakMe will be released tomorrow, on July 5th,” reads an update to their original July 4th report.

JailbreakMe is a web-based hacking utility designed by iPhone Dev Team hacker Comex to enable all iOS device owners to free themselves from Apple’s ‘shackles.’

Although deemed legal in the United States, jailbreaking is in no way condoned by Apple.

In fact, the company run by Steve Jobs takes this matter so seriously that it will void the customer’s warranty, should Apple Support find evidence of tampering with the stock firmware.

In any case, those who do go down this path have the easiest tool to do it.

JailbreakMe allows them to merely access a web page in mobile Safari and ‘Slide-to-Jailbreak” much like they do to unlock their home screen in iOS.

JailbreakMe version 3.0, which should support all current devices under the latest firmware (iOS 4.3.3), is the first to promise support for the iPad 2, Apple’s second-generation post-PC device.

Aside from an updated background image and the necessary invisible code alterations that make it able to jailbreak the newest hardware and software, JailbreakMe 3.0 should not look or work any different than the previous versions.

Ever since the iPad 2 was released this March, there has been plenty of speculation as to when a tool capable of jailbreaking it would arrive.

The Dev Team have long confirmed that their good friend Comex was trying to live up to the task but, so far, no exact release date has been provided.

Comex only recently put up a be-back-soon stickie on his JailbreakMe site indicating that the updated version was just around the corner.
