A new Jade Empire will appear at some point in time, BioWare promises

BioWare, the developer of massively popular role playing games like Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic or Dragon Age, has revealed that one of its older franchises, Jade Empire, might see a sequel appear in the future, although it's currently looking for the right way to make it happen.

BioWare has seen massive growth in recent years, producing hit franchises like Mass Effect or Dragon Age, not to mention getting ready to deploy the massive Star Wars: The Old Republic MMORPG.

Still, even with the studio getting bigger responsibilities in the corporate structure of its owner, Electronic Arts, spinning off into the EA BioWare label, it hasn't forgotten about its older properties, like Jade Empire, the Asian-themed role playing game that was launched back in 2005 for the original Xbox , in 2007 for the PC, and in 2008 for the Mac.

Speaking with Eurogamer, BioWare co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka confirmed that the franchise is still being talked about withing the studio.

"We've been talking a lot about that actually on and off over the years," said Muzyka, now BioWare CEO. "It's an IP, it's a setting that we're really passionate about, and we still are. Both Greg and I were big believers in the IP. We're just looking for the right way to deploy it."

"We have a lot of different projects now on a lot of different platforms, and you might see some of that [Jade Empire] in the future. You never know. We don't have anything to announce on it right now," Muzyka added, "but it is a franchise that's near and dear to us."

Now that BioWare oversees all the RPG efforts of Electronic Arts' own studios, the portfolio of franchises has increased considerably, but, hopefully, a new Jade Empire might appear in the future, probably once the studio's Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO is released this December.
