TransGaming has agreed to sell BioWare's popular RPG title, Jade Empire, Mac version, through its digital distribution platform, GameTree Online. Jade Empire: Special Edition for Mac includes all the story details, levels, characters and gameplay elements of the popular PC and console title.

The distribution portal website for Mac games known
as GameTree Online has been developed by TransGaming. The company leverages its proprietary virtualization technology, Cider, to port Windows-original games to Intel Macs. Jade Empire is one of those games that mustn't be missed, as a Mac port, hence BioWare's move of making the RPG title available as a digital download for Mac users.

"Step into the role of an aspiring martial arts master and follow the path of the Open Palm or Closed Fist. In this multi-award-winning action-RPG, your choices and actions will determine the fate of an empire. Will you prevent the destruction of this beautiful land or crush it beneath your heel? Are you a warrior who uses strength and fighting mastery to bring peace, or will your power bring pain and ruin? THE CHOICE IS YOURS," reads the game's official description.

But even as a Mac owner, there still are some requirements to be met, in order to run this beautiful and engaging RPG title. First and foremost, your machine needs to pack an Intel Core Duo Processor. The Mac itself must be at least under the latest version of Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4.11). Some 1024 MB of RAM will also be required to play the game, as are the following video cards: ATI X1600, NVidia 7300 GT, or X3100 Intel integrated graphics chip. Note that Intel GMA950 is not supported. Lastly, around 5 gigs of free hard drive space will be needed to install the game and, of course, you will need both keyboard and mouse to control your hero.

That's just about everything you need to know about Jade Empire for Mac, so all you have to do now is visit GameTree Online to grab your own copy of the game. Jade Empire for Mac is priced at $40.

i've been waiting for jade empire to come out for mac, but is it only available for digital download or will there be a retail version sold in stores?

Hi Pelagius. To answer your question: no, unfortunately GameTree Online is the only place to get Jade Empire for Mac. TransGaming emphasizes that "A My Gametree account enables gamers to purchase and download full Mac titles, neatly avoiding disc-based media. The perfect balance between content and convenience!"

I've been doing some digging as well, just to make sure, but no - TransGaming's portal is (for now) the only way to get a legitimate copy of the game.

i've been hearing alot of people say they're having trouble with versions of the game running on cider not being able to play the game's videos, do you know if gametree's version has this problem?
i'd hate to purchase this only to find out something as critical as the mass bits of the plotline were missing
