The French team is clearly disappointed with their result in the World Cup final. Everyone thought that Zidane will go all the way and try to make a great exit from football, by winning the World Cup title. And it didn't happen like that. More, Zidane could not keep his nerve and hit Materazzi in the chest, becoming the target of mocking and critics all over the world. And that's certainly something that he doesn't deserve.

Well, we have to say that not all
the people in France are angry with Zidane after that gesture. Actually, the Spanish media have been less cruel to the Real Madrid midfielder than the French one. And that really tells us a lot about the way a nation knows how to respect its values. But anyway, Zizou was defended continuously by his coach - the same Domenech that had a pretty rough time with Zidane after substituting him in France's game against South Korea.

And the French coach was not the only one who stated that he understands and not condemns Zidane. The president of France himself, Jacques Chirac, made it very clear that, in his eyes, Zidane was a true hero. "He is a great champion and should be respected for that. What he did was because the Italian defender provoked him. Let's not make the mistake of confusing those two things", said the French president.

More, he wanted to respond to some former French players' accusations - Frank Leboeuf being one of them - stating that: "Zidane is a true hero of this nation and he made us all very proud. He has an unbelievable character and will always be remembered as one of the greatest footballers in French history".

The president shook Zidane's hand and told him that he will always be a great champion, no matter what. All players visited the French president yesterday. Zidane made his first public appearance after that unfortunate 110th minute in the World Cup final.
