Not one to make headlines on a regular basis, rapper Ja Rule is currently making an effort to come back into the limelight after a long absence caused by a long stint in prison. Ja Rule found himself on the wrong side of the law, and that landed him in jail for gun possession and tax evasion, but last year he was released.

Now, the rapper, who made his fame with collaborations with Jay Z and Ashanti, plans to come back with his own reality series, which is going to be called Follow the Rules. In an lengthy interview with the New York Post in which he talks about his upcoming biography, Ja makes his intentions of breaking over into television clear.

“It'll be a chance for people to see me as a father and a husband. I want people to know this aspect of my life too,” Ja Rule, real name Jeffrey Atkins, tells the publication. The details of the show are sketchy at this point, but it is expected that the reality series is going to hit the screens in the US sometime next year.

Ja Rule isn't by far the first rapper to document his life in a reality series. Previous artists that have taken the same path include T.I., DMX, Ice-T, and Reverend Run from the Run DMC group. The later had several programs running, the most famous being Run's House.

For his part, Ja Rule wants to offer fans glimpses of his real life, and hopefully, correct some of the general conceptions that have earned him a bad reputation. In his new book coming out, “Unruly,” Ja admits that violence has always been a big part of his life but that he's constantly trying to overcome it.

Even when he was serving time in prison, Ja still was able to make headlines, as rumors began popping up late last year that he was having a gay affair with a fellow inmate, art dealer Larry Salamander. The rapper came forward to debunk the myths that he was getting divorced because of his new-found love for men.

“People will say, ‘How’s you cellmate doing?’ and I’ll say, ‘Bubba’s good, I’ll tell him you were asking about him!’” Ja casually admits to the reporter, proving that he's now able to laugh at it all, and that he's already put everything behind him.

The rapper also has an album “Genius Loves Company” coming out next year.
