Ja Rule got one final reprieve from sentencing, but the hammer officially drops in June: and there will be jail time involved. The rapper pled guilty to charges of gun possession stemming from a 2007 arrest and he’ll be doing time.

Ja was arrested on the same night as Lil Wayne was busted. In fact, MTV News points out, they’d been performing together right before cops pulled their cars over.

Upon inspection, they found loaded firearms in both vehicles, while Lil Wayne also had in his possession illegal substances.

While Lil Wayne has already been sentenced and did his time, Ja Rule’s sentencing was often delayed.

In December last year, the rapper pled guilty to the charge and agreed to do a 2-year sentence for it.

He’s now asked for more time to settle an outstanding tax issue and to put the finishing touches to his album.

“A judge delayed Ja Rule's sentencing Wednesday morning (March 9) so the rapper could settle a federal tax issue. The Inc. rapper also will use the time to finish his next project, his attorney said. The furlough was issued by the judge against the prosecution’s wishes,” MTV reports.

“We want to finish the album, and there’s also a tax issue. Somebody, an accountant, had filed an incorrect form, and this is to correct what was done in the past,” the attorney said after the hearing.

As noted above, Ja’s sentencing was delayed a number of times: last time, he asked for a reprieve so he could get proper dental work.

On June 8, he will not be able to delay things even more. TMZ reports that he will be sentenced to two years in prison, of which he will probably serve only a few months.

The charge brought against him is that of attempted gun possession: on the night of the bust, cops found a semi-automated loaded gun in his sports car.
