JVC is one of the most important players on the market of LCD TVs, as is has launched up until now a very consistent line-up of models that targets a wide segment of the consumer market. However, since most of its competitors have come up with new models during the past few weeks, the company took some steps of its own and released 4 new LCD models, all HDTV-capable and featuring JVC's latest video processing technology.

The new models from JVC are divided into 2 series: the 688 series includes the 37-inch LT-37X688 and the 42-inch LT-42X688, each offering a new black cabinet, while the higher performance 788 series includes the 42-inch LT-42X788 and the 47-inch LT-47X788, featuring black cabinets with silver trim and an ultra-thin bezel. The 788 series sets also provide a higher contrast ratio, faster response time and wider viewing angle.

Despite being divided into two different series, all the new LCDs from JVC provide 1920 x 1080 resolutions and incorporate JVC's D.I.S.T. (Digital Image Scaling Technology) engine that upconverts all signals to display at full 1080. Moreover, all the LCDs come packed with the company's Genessa chip, a 32-bit CPU processor that combines all image processing, noise reduction and color management technologies. Among these technologies, the most important are the Digital Video Noise Reduction that reduces the graininess for both analog and digital video sources, a Block Noise Suppressor that detects and eliminates "block noise", a Mosquito Noise Suppressor that eliminates noise in low bit-rate signals without degrading the image and a 3D Y/C comb filter with DTV Cross Color Eliminator that uses an advanced 10-bit 3D Y/C separation process to eliminate cross color and dot interference that is embedded in older source material.

The new LCDs from JVC also provide a few other advanced features, as for example nine aspect modes, four picture modes, an USB photo viewer as well as an illuminated universal remote that includes five direct video input buttons and can be programmed to operate set top boxes, DVD players, digital video recorders, VCRs and audio products besides the LCDs themselves. Moreover, the new sets include a 10-watts-per-channel amplifier, JVC's Advanced Hyper Surround for simulated surround sound and twin oblique cone speakers.

The 2 new LCDs from the 688 series will be available starting in June, for around $1,600 and $2,000 respectively, while the models in the 788 series will hit the shelves in July with price tags ranging from $2,100 to $2,700.
