It is a sort of cheat really, since the output resolution is still 4K

The 4K resolution of image projectors is different from the 4K UHD standard defined recently for PCs.

That means the resolution is of 4096 x 2400 pixels instead of 3840 x 2160 pixels.

8K would be double the former, normally, but it is a bit hard to implement it, hardware-wise, not to mention expensive.

Fortunately, JVC has found a workaround that may or may not have been inspired by how 3D uses two sets of images to provide the illusion of depth.

Long story short, the DLA-VS4800 projector has a resolution of 4K 4096 x 2400 pixels, but produces two images at the same time, alternating at 120 Hz, and shifted diagonally by a single pixel. This is what doubles the resolution so effectively.

You'll still be limited to 4K input sources though.

Sadly, we aren't sure the tactic deserves the price of over $262,000 / 202,960 Euro.
