The evolution of image projection technologies has brought about some pretty impressive changes in the area of projectors, an increasingly higher number of manufacturers launching advanced devices of this type, which provide high-quality images, as well as all sorts of extra-features. And the latest announcement of this type comes from JVC, who has just unveiled the DLA-SH4K model, a projector that uses high-definition D-ILA (Direct-drive Image Light Amplifier) technology in order to deliver the highest image resolution encountered in the case of projectors: 4096 x 2400 pixels.

The projector is powered by a 825 W xenon lamp, which delivers an overall brightness level of around 3500 ANSI lumens, and sports a 10.000:1 contrast ratio. Furthermore, it sports a 1.22-zoom motorized lens and generates images with diagonal sizes between 2 meters and 8.38 meters.

Although it's one of the most advanced devices of this type available on the market, the connectivity options provided by the 4K2K are not exactly fantastic, since it only sports 4 x DVI-D (Dual Link) interfaces. Furthermore, it supports a relatively wide range of resolutions, namely 4096 x 2400, 4096 x 2160, 3840 x 2400, 1920 x 1080.

The device from JVC is quite a monster, as it measures around 660 x 392 x 827 mm, at a weight of around 59 kilograms. Furthermore, it consumes a huge amount of power, of around 1500 W, which means that this thing will certainly have some pretty high operational costs.

Although the people over at JVC have not announced the device's exact price tag, it seems that it will arrive in stores at some point in January 2007 and will retail for over 100,000 US dollars, which would make it one of the most expensive devices of this type ever launched (albeit also the most advanced).
