Although it's a relatively recent development, HD radio is becoming increasingly popular with consumers, simply due to the fact that it can provide a much higher level of sound quality. The number of both desktop and car tuners capable of receiving HD broadcasts has seriously increased over the past few years,
but one of the most interesting innovations in this field comes from JVC, who has just announced a special model that can be used in both environments, namely the KT-HDP1.
The KT-HDP1 adapts to most vehicles and features a thin and slim design with Built-In HD (With Multi-Cast), FM and AM Tuners. Using the optional accessory kits, the KT-HDP1 allows users to listen to their favorite High Definition Radio programming while driving, or, via some special docking stations, in their homes or offices as well.
The device features a full dot matrix LCD display, with a white backlight and blue key illumination, which is used for viewing the station and program information display. Furthermore, the KT-HDP1 features a built-in FM transmitter, 5-way navigation keys and 18 preset channels. The device also includes an HD station scan and seek system, as well as a wireless remote control and 12V cigarette lighter adapter plug.
As mentioned earlier, the KT-HDP1 requires a docking station in order to connect to a car's audio system or home stereo system, and the people over at JVC have announced that they're planning to launch three such items as well, namely the KV-K1017, KV-K1018 or KV-K1019 models in the near future.
The KT-HDP1 will retail for around 150 US dollars, quite an OK price to pay for such an item, taking into consideration the enhanced level of versatility it can provide. Furthermore, it would seem that JVC is planning quite a lot of other products that use the same basic working principle for the future, but it remains to be seen just how those will really turn out.
