JLo is taking legal action against a British newspaper... No, strike that: Jennifer Lopez (she said she didn't want to be referred to by the JLo name anymore and it's best to play it safe) and Marc Anthony have contacted their Belfast high power attorney, Paul Tweed, and are already moving in for the kill. Against the 'National Enquirer'.

Apparently, the British rag, famous for its many breaking stories (and for the many legal suits filed against it by the celebrities it covers) has published an article about the two singers, which ran in March and in which it was clearly stated that they were involved in a 'heroin scandal'. The story also included a photo of Marc, next to photographer Michael Star who, at the time, is facing many charges of heroin possession and child pornography.

According to Tweed, the same lawyer that last year won a case against the tabloid after it ran a story about Britney Spears and Kevin Federline getting divorced, Marc never met Star so that kinda makes it impossible for him to be 'involved' in any heroin scandal. Even more, the attorney let the media understand that the power couple is seeking a 'six-figure settlement', an apology and a retraction and they will most likely get all of the above.

The explanation is simple: Jennifer and Marc are pursuing the matter in Europe because here, unlike back in the States, the celebrity-friendly laws are more strict when it comes to libel and defamation. 'The First Amendment restrictions in US libel law make it virtually impossible for international celebrities or other high-profile individuals to sue successfully. But with the advance of the Internet, and with US publications now extending into Europe, they must subject themselves to libel laws in these jurisdictions', he explained.

The article, which was written almost entirely based on the words of a 'friend' of the couple (who claimed Marc and Star were friends), ran in the British edition of the 'Enquirer', as well as in other Irish newspapers. From these issues to making it into the international press was just a step and it was made in a matter of a couple of hours. In a short period of time, everyone knew that March Anthony was liable of going to jail because his name was closely connected and he had been involved in illegal activities with Michael Star.

When contacted for comments, Jennifer and Marc's representatives were not immediately available.
