JLo - No More 'Jenny from the Block'

The diva returns to her Hispanic roots with her first all Spanish album

Despite her heartfelt performances in the biopic 'Selena' and the many Latino influences that could always be felt somewhere in the background of her music, Jennifer Lopez never recorded an album exclusively in Spanish. Now that she had Marc Anthony by her side to inspire her, the diva decided the time was right for her to return to the spotlight, bringing a new sound and image along with it.

'Como Ama Una Mujer' ('How a Woman Loves') is Jennifer's first all Spanish material, something totally different from what she got us used to. There will be no more bling-bling and no more 'Jenny from the block'-like attitude and lyrics, at least for the time being.

Instead, we are asked to enter a world of romantic sounds, of lyrics that speak directly to the heart and not merely to the ears and of deeper meanings that sometimes one tends to overlook. However, the album will still be classified as pure traditional Latin pop, with no concessions whatsoever for the English market. That means Jennifer Lopez will not go back again in the studio to work on the tracks included on 'Como Ama Una Mujer', for their English-language versions. The plan is to market the album as such: a mainstream Spanish album.

The material hits stores on April 3rd but do not despair because this is not the only album that JLo will be releasing this year. As a matter of fact, she also has something in store for her English-speaking fans, too: an English album that will come out sometime later, towards the end of 2007 and on which she is now working.

As for 'Como Ama Una Mujer', Jennifer says it will be her most personal work so far, especially as it provided the opportunity to collaborate more closely with her husband Marc Anthony. 'Emotionally speaking, to me this album is more than any other album. Marc gave me confidence in the studio. When someone believes in you so much, you don't want to let them down. And it's also the material. I think this material lent itself to my voice.', Lopez told Billboard in a recent interview.

The first release from the album is out for a couple of weeks now. 'Que Hiciste', the desperate cry of a woman who sees her dreams of love shattered in a single instant. I just have to say this, if the rest of the album is at least half as good as this particular track (clip below), it will definitely be worth your money.
