A third explosion reported yesterday at the JFK library in Boston has turned out to be a fire unrelated to the events at the Boston Marathon.
As I previously informed you, two blasts took the lives of a child and two adults during Friday's race, and police inform that 141 people have been injured in the process.
A section of the building has been engulfed in flames at around 3 p.m., coinciding with the blasts at the finish line of the marathon.
A bomb squad was dispatched to the facility located several miles away from the spot of the explosions and the staff was evacuated, feeding rumors about a connection between the incidents.
According to library director Thomas Putnam quoted by Boston.com, the bomb disposal team has been called in as a precaution. The incident has been classified as a “mechanical fire” since.
“There was a fire, and it’s still unclear how it began. [...] We did hear something that sounded like an explosion,” spokeswoman Rachel Flor says.
