JD Supra, a distributor of legal content, has launched its free “Legal Edge” iPhone application. Streaming timely legal information written by the nation’s lawyers and law firms, the application allows iPhone users to stay on top of the latest legal news, as well as of the various developments in any field.

The company reveals in a press release that its new application can stream content by subjects, which include immigration, bankruptcy, real estate, labor and employment, insurance, tax, consumer protection, intellectual property, and numerous others, according to JD Supra.

“Our mission is to make legal content posted on JD Supra visible and freely accessible in all the places an audience for it gathers,” JD Supra founder Aviva Cuyler said. “With our latest distribution channel, we bring the legal community and its expertise into the promising world of mobile apps. This iPhone app is just a beginning.”

“Legal Edge” is the first iPhone application to be powered by the legal community at large. The app allows users to browse the latest legal articles, news of interest, blog posts, and court filings uploaded to JD Supra by lawyers and legal professionals, and to read the content in iPhone’s Safari browser or the PDF reader. Users can also connect directly with document authors via a “Contact Contributor” feature within the app.

“Now, my work on JD Supra doesn’t only appear in email digests, Twitter news feeds, Facebook pages, RSS streams, and third-party news sources – it also goes to the iPhone. All I do is upload the document,” San Diego bankruptcy attorney Carl Starrett added.

According to the same report, JD Supra can create custom iPhone applications for lawyers and law firms that want to stream their own content exclusively via a firm-branded mobile app. More information on JD Supra’s offerings is available via the company’s official website, here.
