But only the phone calling services

Yesterday, Yahoo proudly announced that the Sunnyvale-based company reached an agreement with JAJAH which would bring more advanced features to its Yahoo Messenger VoIP technologies. As mentioned yesterday, JAJAH will power the Phone In and Phone Out functions currently helped by Yahoo's in-house solution. Although Yahoo sustains there are no less than 97 million Yahoo Messenger users all over the world, there is no word on how many of them are actually using Yahoo's premium voice services, namely Phone In and Phone Out.

Today, Sarah Bacon, Product Manager, commented the agreement, saying that the integration of JAJAH in Yahoo Messenger does not affect PC to PC calls because they will remain Yahoo's responsibility.

"Rest assured that our voice services will remain the same and as a user, you will not notice any change. We are committed to achieving the highest possible call quality and ease of use. This change does not affect our free PC to PC calls; these will continue to be handled by Yahoo! Messenger (and still be free!)," she said.

Yahoo Messenger has always been one of the most popular instant messaging applications on the market but, even if it was offering cheap calls to regular or to mobile phones around the world, people were turning their eyes to other solutions. Skype, for instance, is one of the most important players on this side of the industry and will remain so as long as the parent company continues to improve the service. Recently, Skype announced a new calling plan which would let clients place phone calls in more than 30 different countries around the world for very low fees.
