This is turning out to be the best week ever in terms of sequels, and it's only Tuesday. After it was confirmed that David Lynch was starting work on the “Twin Peaks” sequel, 25 years after the last episode aired, J. K. Rowling is now teasing a possible Harry Potter new novel.

The writer took to her Twitter account to tease her followers with a status update that seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary. “Very busy at the moment working on a novel, tweaking a screenplay and being involved in @lumos campaigns. Back when I've finished something!” she wrote.

Fans demanded answers as soon as the first tweet mentioned a new novel

Immediately, fans began quizzing her on this mysterious new novel, hoping that it was going to be something related to Harry Potter. The author has expressed her reticence at picking up the storyline in further novels in the past, as she's repeatedly claimed that she's exhausted the subject.

While she has been confirmed to be working on a spinoff of the books, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” which would be the screenplay she was referring to in her original tweet, there has been absolute radio silence when it came to Harry Potter.

But fans kept asking and prodding her, until she relented with yet another cryptic tweet: “.@peruseproject See, now I'm tempted to post a riddle or an anagram. Must resist temptation... must work...”

Rowling posted a cryptic message, saying something about magic wands, the world went mad

The following day, she gave in to her temptation and posted this line: “Cry, foe! Run amok! Fa awry! My wand won’t tolerate this nonsense,” and fans immediately speculated it was a Harry Potter book. The “magic wand” part seems to be a dead giveaway that Rowling has decided to follow up on the teenaged wizard.

The post was later retweeted almost eight thousand times, which means that fans are still very much interested in the story. After all, many have complained about the way the books ended, and even Rowling later admitted that she regretted pairing Ron with Hermione (spoiler alert?).

The last time Rowling wrote anything about Harry and his friends was back in August, when she penned a 1,500-word story that starred the three friends, Harry, Ron and Hermione in their 30s. The story was published on her website dedicated to all things Harry Potter-related, Pottermore.

Also in the story were Ginny, Harry's wife, their children, and the children of Hermione and Ron. That means that Rowling has at least given thoughts about the future of her characters, maybe long enough to have material for yet another book.
