Director and production house Bad Robot marketing into storytelling once more

Above is a new teaser from writer / director J.J. Abrams and production company Bad Robot, which he founded. It’s called “Stranger” and it looks very impressive – but no one knows for a fact what it’s meant to promote.

While Abrams is famous for how secretive he is, he is also famous for the ability of turning marketing hype (virals) into storytelling fun, as EW also notes.

Several theories on what “Stranger” is are making the rounds right now, but only 2 of them are probable.

“Stranger” could be a teaser for Abrams’ upcoming NBC show “Believe,” which also lists director Alfonso Cuaron.

It could also be a promo for an upcoming book that is actually more than a book. Confused yet?

It’s called “S,” was co-written by Doug Dorst and comes out on October 28; it’s also created as a transmedia experience, which would explain the release of the trailer above.

“At the core of this multilayered literary puzzle of love and adventure is a book of mysterious provenance. In the margins, another tale unfolds – through the hand-scribbled notes, questions, and confrontations of two readers. Between the pages, online, and in the real world, you’ll find evidence of their interaction, ephemera that bring this tale vividly to life,” the publishers describe “S.”

I don't know about you, but I am intrigued.
