Numerous websites have already been hacked in preparation for OpUSA, a campaign set to officially start on May 7. Several hacktivist collectives have announced their participation, including Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Cyber Fighters, the group that’s famous for disrupting the sites of US banks.

The initiators of OpUSA have revealed that the Cyber Fighters will take part in the attacks, but, so far, the hacktivists – whose main goal is to get the “insulting” Innocence of Muslims movie removed from the Web – haven’t officially confirmed their participation.

In an email sent to Softpedia a few hours ago, the hackers explained their role in OpUSA.

“As we have said earlier, the Operation Ababil is performed because of widespread and organized offends to Islamic spirituals and holy issues, especially the great prophet of Islam (PBUH) and if the insulting film is eliminated from the Internet, the related attacks also will be stopped,” al-Qassam Cyber Fighters stated.

“The targets in this operation are chosen among the American banks and the reason for this selection is mentioned in previous interviews.”

They clarify the fact that they will continue focusing on Operation Ababil, and they will continue to target US financial institutions.

“At present we only continue our path in Operation Ababil. Based on the al-Qassam Cyber Fighters' planning, the May 7th is the start day of the 10th week of Operation Ababil's 3rd phase,” they said.

However, that doesn’t mean they don’t support OpUSA.

“We invite all cyber activists to choose American banks as their primary targets so that all of us reach to common goals better,” they added.

In the meantime, more websites and even Twitter accounts are being targeted by hacktivists. Hackers News Bulletin reports that 9 websites and 2 Twitter accounts have been breached by the hacker Ins0mnia.
