The hacker known as Kahuna, or ItsKahuna, has been arrested on March 20, 2012, in Ohio, after an FBI investigation.

According to the FBI, 21-year-old John Anthony Borell III, from Toledo, Ohio, has been charged with two counts of computer intrusion, referring to the hacks that took place in January, 2012, which targeted Utah law enforcement agencies.

Court documents, provided by Salt Lake Tribune, reveal that after they made sure the individual associated with the ItsKahuna nickname was the one responsible for the hacks, the authorities requested Twitter to provide detailed information on his account.

With several IP addresses from Twitter, law enforcement representatives went to Buckeye Telesystems, the alleged hacker’s Internet Service Provider (ISP). That’s how investigators managed to find Borell.

The hacktivist, considered to be associated with Anonymous and CabinCr3w is charged with illegally accessing the server on which the sites of the Utah Chiefs of Police Association and the Salt Lake City Police Department were hosted.

The complaint shows that each of the offenses has caused damages of more than $5,000 (3,750 EUR).

If he is found guilty on both counts, the suspect can spend the next 20 years in prison. The court can also force him to pay a fine of $250,000 (187,000 EUR).

Looking at ItsKahuna’s Twitter profile, there’s one thing that can be noted. He was arrested on March 20, but on March 23 he was making posts about going away to relax for a while.

“Lot going on at work, late hours probably not going to be on twitter much, but if you need me dm me and ill respond when I can,” he wrote one day after he was arrested.

“Also my phone is not working right, keeps shutting itself off so if you texted me I most likely didnt see it dm or mention me if you need me.”

On March 23, he wrote, ”Going to go enjoy the weather with my sis at the cottage this weekened, weathers nice and we have weed #ShouldBeFun.”
