The Italian weather website ilMeteo.it, which is the country’s 29th most popular website according to Alexa, has been hacked by cybercriminals.

According to Conrad Longmore of Dynamoo’s Blog, the attackers changed a number of legitimate JavaScript files to redirect the site’s visitors to a compromised domain called karsons(dot)co(dot)uk.

It’s uncertain what the cybercriminals’ goal is, but they’re either looking to distribute a piece of malware, or they’re linked to a rogue ad network, which could also be set up for malware distribution.

At the time of writing, Google is not flagging the website for malicious content. However, Safe Browsing shows that this site has hosted malicious software over the past 90 days.

Until this is sorted out, it’s best if you avoid visiting the website, just to make sure you don’t end up with a piece of malware on your computer.
