They employ a PowerWASP Delta 3D printer to make traditional Modica chocolate treats

The cool thing about chocolate is that it doesn't really matter, ultimately, what shape it takes. The recipe turns out a fluid substance that hardens when cooled. That means that you can use 3D printing technology to shape it however you want without the quality or taste suffering.

A pair of Italian companies are taking advantage of that in order to sell 3D printed treats made out of traditional Modica chocolate.

Belgium may be famous for its chocolate, but that doesn't mean that other regions of the world don't have their own recipes.

Modica is one such recipe. WASP and 3DiTALY have teamed up and opened a shop that sells 3D printed Modica chocolate.

WASP’s PowerWASP Delta 3D printer was modified and used to extrude chocolate instead of plastic. They demoed the process at the opening party last week, on May 11, when the store was inaugurated (which happens to be the third 3DiTALY branded store in Italy itself).

In case you're wondering what all the fuss is about, Modica chocolate is produced through a low temperature process like Aztecs, and has a peculiar fragrance and flavor because of that, among other factors that will not be mentioned (it's not like the secret recipe will ever be revealed after all, it would no longer be a secret then).

So if you're even in Sicily, you may as well try out some of the sweets on sale at 3DiTaly stores.
