Tomonobu Itagaki, who is the main developer working on Devil’s Third at Valhalla Games, says that the game’s focus on realism when it comes to military hardware will make it stand out from the shooter crowd.

The developer told Gamasutra that realism is missing in games like Modern Warfare 3, stating, “There are two propellers, on the submarine, and they're rotating in the same direction. That's impossible, though, because it wouldn't work to propel the craft; that can't exist in real life. That's the truth, and I speak as a major fan of Modern Warfare who really respects what they've done.”

He added, “That's why I don't think everyone who makes war games like that has a full knowledge of war technology, or the physics and weapons involved. Maybe it's all little details, but it's a big surprise to me that that incorrect detail went unnoticed by anyone -- s they put it in their E3 trailer.”

Itagaki describes himself as a military nut and says that DICE, the creators of Battlefield 3, were also guilty of simplifying military reality in the desert battle scene which involved tanks firing while on the move.

The developer says that companies are making games that are too simple and he believes that there’s space for a realism oriented and still over the top game to become a big success.

Itagaki was unwilling to offer any concrete detail on his new project but he says that the way the player perceives the battlefield will be very different and closer to real life.

The story of the game is linked to the Kessler syndrome and possibility of a future that might see all satellites in Earth orbit become unusuable.

Devil’s Third will be launched on both the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 and is set to be published by THQ at some point during 2013.

A Nintendo Wii U version of the game might also be in development.
