Tom Hardy’s most recent film, “Child 44,” turned out to be a box office stinker, but hopes are high that his fall release “Legend” will live up to the hype. Of course, before this one, we’ll get to see him as Max in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” which is said to finally turn him into the international star he deserves to be.

With “Fury Road” coming out in theaters in two weeks’ time, a first trailer for “Legend,” in which Hardy plays a double role, has also been released. Reaction to all “Fury Road” materials has been very positive, so it’s a good moment as any other to build on this hype to bring attention to his other projects.

“Legend” is the story of the Kray brothers, identical twins Ronnie and Reggie Kray, 2 real-life gangsters who ruled and terrorized London in the ’50s and the ’60s. As a hint before you proceed to the trailer, Ronnie is Hardy with glasses, who also happened to be the cruelest and most deranged of the brothers.

The Krays mixed with celebrities and ran business with an iron fist, even becoming celebrities on their own at one point, hence the name of the film.

“Legend” is written and directed by “LA Confidential” writer Brian Helgeland, and also stars Emily Browning, Christopher Eccleston, Taron Egerton, Chazz Palminteri, Tara Fitzgerald, and David Thewlis.

The first trailer promises an intense and thrilling ride, starting with Hardy’s double performance and the very convincing set pieces, to the music and the costumes. The film opens in September this year.
