Windows 8 adopters aren't quite satisfied with the new operating system

Microsoft will soon launch the 8.1 update for Windows 8, but consumers around the world are already looking ahead for the next full version of the company's operating system.

Disappointed with the Metro UI – desktop mix and frustrated after the problems caused by Patch Tuesday, some of our users called for Microsoft to focus more on Windows 9 to at least launch an operating system that has more potential to impress.

"It's time to develop Windows 9," a reader posted during the weekend, after the Outlook.com team admitted on Reddit that Windows 8 wasn't quite a perfect operating system.

"Metro [is] for tablets and the desktop for PCs," another one added, explaining that the way Microsoft mixed the two working environments in Windows 8 isn't quite the best choice for the industry.

Others, on the other hand, are disappointed with Windows 8 when it comes to performance, as the modern operating system is causing quite a lot of trouble following the recent updates.

"Have had 8 and running perfectly, but now it BSODs every 2 hours, and I know it's not my machine because all 3 in our home are doing this," one of our users explained.

As far as Windows 9 is concerned, only little is known at this point, but Microsoft has already started development of the project, with sources close to the matter hinting that an early beta version might be released in early 2014.

According to existing details, Windows 9 could see daylight in November 2014, after reaching RTM in August. Of course, take this with a pinch of salt, as Microsoft doesn't ever comment on future projects.

As for its features, the company will most likely stick to the Modern UI and the Start screen in Windows 9 too, so there's no chance to see the old Start Menu coming back in Windows. The company will probably make the OS better for the touch, with dedicated versions to be aimed at tablets too.
